Shelley Leighton

Speech and Language Therapist

Shelley is a Speech and Language Therapist at The London Children’s Practice. She holds an MSc Speech and Language Therapy from City, University of London.  She also holds a BA Hons in Russian and German from the University of Leeds.

Shelley is experienced working with a varied paediatric caseload, having worked in nurseries, mainstream primary and secondary schools as well as special education needs settings.

Shelley currently splits her week between school-based work where she supports Deaf children and young people and a clinic-based role working with a broad range of clinical groups.

Shelley is a specialist in Deafness and is especially passionate about supporting the deaf young people she works with to advocate for themselves to fully access the opportunities that life presents. She also loves working with children and young people of all ages and particularly values the importance of working collaboratively with parents/carers to support the development of a child’s communication skills.

Shelley is a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, and is also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

Outside of work, Shelley enjoys travelling abroad, soaking up other cultures as well as reconnecting with the languages she learned many years ago, in particular Czech but also French, German, Russian and Spanish.
