Jamie-Lee Basel

Speech and Language Therapist

Jamie is a Speech and Language Therapist at The London Children’s Practice. Jamie obtained her  BSc Speech-Language Pathology degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and has been working in pediatrics for the past 9 years within the UK and abroad. Jamie works primarily with early years for sensory feeding and communication development.

She has experience working within a sensory integration environment, providing therapy to complex special needs children, including, autism, global developmental delay, sensory processing disorder, ADHD/ADD and central auditory processing disorder. Jamie believes in a total communication approach, cherry picking the best segments from a range of early communication intervention programmes to individualize to each child’s needs.

Jamie has conducted EHCP assessments, screenings, full communication assessments and school observations for early years up until school-aged.

Jamie’s ultimate passion resides in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders and is specializing in feeding therapy. Jamie completed her final year thesis “Towards the Initial Validation of a Paediatric Dysphagia Screening Tool”. She has conducted feeding assessments using the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach, a Systematic desensitization and Positive Reinforcement program which uses Natural Reinforcers and directly engages the child in the process of Learning to Eat. Jamie has previously held a Director of Speech Therapy position at an MDT sensory integration based clinic in London. She has provided inbservice training for the MDT team and enjoys collaborating with her colleagues to ensure that each child is receiving holistic intervention, if and when indicated.

Jamie is certified and trained in the SOS Approach and ADOS assessments and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Outside of work, Jamie is an aspiring watercolor artist and gardener. She cherishes time spent with her husband, Jason, and her cat, Benjamin.
