Elizabeth Stegmann

Speech and Language Therapist

Elizabeth Stegmann is a Speech & Language Therapist at The London Children’s Practice. Elizabeth graduated as a speech therapist (BA Speech Language Pathology) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She moved to London in October of 2021. She obtained her MSc Speech, Language and Communication (Advanced Studies) degree at City University of London in 2022.

Elizabeth has experience working with both adults and children. She worked in a rural community hospital in South Africa, where she treated a large variety of patients (including, for example, dysphagia, acquired brain injuries, children with special needs & neonatal feeding). She has also worked in a private practice servicing both public and private mainstream schools in Pretoria, South Africa.

Elizabeth has experience providing both early communication therapy and therapy for school-aged children with a variety of difficulties. She has experience in hospital, clinic, and school-based assessments. She often works with multi-lingual children whose first languages are not English.

Parent training always forms a big part of her intervention. She has also been a part of multi-disciplinary team that provided training to different professionals within a hospital environment. During her time at the rural hospital, she provided training to staff members at a local school to assist with the implementation of an alternative & augmentative Communication (AAC) programme.

Elizabeth has a special interest in paediatrics, practically with children with special needs and AAC. She is currently working towards specialising in this area. Elizabeth is trained in South African Sign Language (as an AAC tool) and British Sign Language (Level 1). She has completed a specialised intensive course on therapy with children with cerebral palsy.

Elizabeth speaks English and Afrikaans. She can also speak basic German (and is continuing to learn it!).

Elizabeth is registered at both the Health Professions Council of South Africa and at the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK as a speech and language therapist.

Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys reading, cooking and travelling (as often as possible!).
